Short answer: There are now around six navigation apps in the Netherlands for brommer and snorfiets riders. The biggest difference isn't the map, it's whether the app knows what you ride. Only a few apps have a separate mode for the snorfiets (blue plate) and the brommer (yellow plate). Google Maps has no two-wheeler routing for the Netherlands.
Written by TURNSS: navigation for brommer and snorfiets. We make one of the apps in this comparison. We tried hard to be fair, including about where others do better.
Why a regular navigation app doesn't work
A snorfiets and a brommer aren't allowed on the same roads. A snorfiets usually belongs on the bike path, except in cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht, where you have to ride on the road on many streets. A brommer usually rides on the road inside built-up areas and often on the bike path outside them, but never on a motorway or an autoweg. For the details, read blue or yellow plate and where can you ride.
A car navigation app sends you onto the autoweg. A bike navigation app sends you down bike paths your brommer isn't allowed on. That's why these apps exist.
The apps side by side
On November 6, 2026, we checked every app's store pages and website and only wrote down what the makers say themselves. "Yes" means the maker mentions it. A dash means we didn't find it, not that it's definitely missing.
| App | Separate snorfiets and brommer | Voice guidance | Ferries | Weather | Speed | Stops | Offline maps | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TURNSS | Yes | Yes | Yes, with departure times | Yes, including warnings | Yes, with warning | Yes | No | iOS, Android |
| Zippa | Yes | Yes | - | - | - | Yes | - | iOS, Android |
| Bromwijzer | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Partly | Android, iOS in open test |
| Urban Rider | Partly: 25 or 45 km/h speed cap and a bike-path option | Yes | - | Yes | Yes, plus speed cameras | Yes | No | iOS, Android |
| ScooterNav | No, brommer only | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | - | No | iOS, Android |
| Bromly | No, focused on the brommer | Yes | - | - | - | - | - | iOS, Android |
| Calimoto | No, motorcycle | Yes | - | - | Yes | - | Yes | iOS, Android, web |
Beyond navigation itself, the extras differ:
| App | Senior mode | Live location sharing | Apple Watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| TURNSS | Yes | Yes | Yes, during the ride (Pro) |
| Zippa | - | - | - |
| Bromwijzer | - | - | - |
| Urban Rider | - | - | Yes |
| ScooterNav | - | - | - |
| Bromly | - | - | - |
| Calimoto | - | - | - |
We can't give honest numbers on real-world accuracy: there's no independent test that compares all apps on the same routes. The apps are mainly based on road data, so their accuracy can never be fully guaranteed. That's why several apps let you report a mistake.
What does it cost?
Prices as the makers list them on November 6, 2026, in euros. Prices change often, so always check the store.

Where others do better
- Offline maps: Calimoto works offline, Bromwijzer partly. TURNSS doesn't have offline maps yet.
- Low-emission zones: Zippa and Bromwijzer take low-emission zones for older petrol scooters into account. Useful in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
- More languages: Urban Rider and Bromwijzer offer many more languages than TURNSS (Dutch and English).
- Microcars: Zippa and Bromwijzer also work for microcars. TURNSS is only for the snorfiets and brommer.
- Community: Zippa and Bromwijzer let riders share reports, and Bromwijzer also has group rides.
- Business trip logging: Bromly offers trip logging for businesses. It's coming soon to TURNSS.
How to choose
Start with what you ride. On a snorfiets, pick an app with a real snorfiets mode, or you'll be sent onto roads where you don't belong. On a brommer, you have more choice. Then check your phone: not every app is available for both iPhone and Android. Bromwijzer is still in an open test on iPhone. Finally, try two apps on a route you know well. You'll quickly see which one understands your city.
Features and prices checked on November 6, 2026, on the App Store, Google Play and the makers' websites (urbanrider.app, scooternav.com, teambromly.com, bromwijzer.nl, calimoto.com) and Google Maps help pages. Prices include VAT as shown in the stores. Apps change fast; if something is out of date, let us know through the app.
